Potpourri time!

Lots of little things to post about...

  • Windows Vista Business Test Drive and other Vista information
  • Various bits of RoboHelp 6 info
  • Upcoming conferences and other speaking engagements
  • Managing Virtual Teams book

[More:]

Windows Vista Business Test Drive and other information

Want to play with Vista before deciding if you should purchase/upgrade? Visit the Windows Vista Business Test Drive.

Want even more information? Visit BestBuy, CompUSA, or your favorite retailer. Check out Microsoft's Event Schedule (use the fields at the top of the page to find out which events will happening near you).

And if you happen to run into one of Microsoft Across America trucks, let me know what you thought! (If one came to Massachusetts, I missed it.)

RoboHelp 6 bits and pieces

OK, I'm curious...is anything more polarizing in the online Help community than RoboHelp? I think not...

MonkeyPi's blog has now accumulated some great comments for his two entries, RoboHelp 6 finally arrives, and it's craptastic, and In This Corner.

My friend Leonor Ciarlone weighed in with her opinions at the Gilbane Group Blog.

And Adobe has a new blogger. Vivek Jain, the Group Product Manager for FrameMaker and RoboHelp, has posted his first entry (not much content just yet, but given the subjects that he'll be talking about, I bet that changes fairly quickly). (Hat tip: Sarah O'Keefe).

For those who may have missed the announcement, Adobe will hold two online events soon, one about the new features in RoboHelp 6 and one on writing for global audiences with FrameMaker. Visit the Event Details page for more information and to register.

Upcoming conferences and other speaking engagements

Want to learn more? Become more marketable? Come listen to me speak? ;-) Check out the following conferences:

  • STC Boston Chapter's monthly meeting, 28 February 2007. I'll be giving a short presentation on the future of communication.
  • WritersUA, Long Beach, California, from 25 to 28 March 2007. Early registration has closed, but there's still time to register at the standard rates! Brian Walker and I are hard at work on our session about creating accessible websites, and I'm also busy working on my session on innovations in Help Authoring Tools.
  • STC Northern New England Chapter's monthly meeting, 11 April 2007.
  • DocTrainUX, Vancouver, Canada, from 18 to 20 April 2007. Registration is still open. I'm giving a presentation on how managers can select the best HAT for their teams, and Brenda, Kit, and I are giving a presentation on preserving your sanity when working with virtual teams.
  • STC's 54th Annual Conference, the Technical Communication Summit, Minneapolis, Minnesota, from 13 to 16 May 2007. What will I be speaking about? Stay tuned!

Managing Virtual Teams book

Have you gotten your copy yet? Managing Virtual Teams: Getting the Most from Wikis, Blogs, and Other Collaborative Tools has been published, and is available through my site and through the publisher's site. Bring it to any of my speaking engagements if you'd like me to autograph it. (If you bring it to a conference where all three of us are speaking, we'll all autograph it :-) We believe it will be for sale at one conference, at least.)

FWIW:

I sent a neutral discussion about RoboHelp with regards to FrameMaker and mentioned WebWorks Publisher, AIT, and Flare. Not a flame, just a comment about what I consider coming from a FrameMaker standpoint ... looking for the FM and RH product manager to talk about plans to further support FM with RH.

It never got posted.

A benign happy post that I sent a day later did get posted blog.

Hope that helps you get your thoughts posted to the blog.

Cheers.
