because a picture is worth a thousand words...

boy with cast on his arm

Jesse fell last night while roller-blading, and immediately complained that his right wrist was hurting. (Actually, the complaint was that it hurt "inside the bone".) We iced it and put an ace bandage on for stability.

It still hurt this morning, so we headed to the doctor's office. He has a buckle fracture of his right radius. (I found an x-ray that looks similar to his.) Also known as an incomplete fracture and a greenstick fracture, it means a minimum of three weeks in a cast and more x-rays while they verify that it's healing correctly.

It also means no playing in the soccer tournament this weekend, no more soccer this season, no bike riding, no swimming, no karate...and lots of complaining about how he can't write ;-)

It's gonna be a long three weeks!

Ugh.

Still, why no soccer? Come on, can't a lad have a bit of fun?

When I was a lad, I fell off the monkey bars at the park and did the same thing. Ended up in a cast. Still went to horseback riding camp for a week. Woot!

Oh, wait, mine was a traditional greenstick fracture. Nevermind.

Have a great weekend anyway. Go support the team!!

No soccer because them's the rules. "Shin guards are a must and jewelry, casts, and braces are not allowed."

Otherwise, you know he'd be playing!

Really? Our clubs and refs generally let padded casts go.

Helical spinal immobilization gets a thumbs down from the refs, though, cos another player might get tangled up in it and cut themselves.

Stay cool, eat lotsa sausage and burgers is my advice!

So, wuzzit a good weekend anyway?

We had one girl (11) catch an elbow in the eye in one of our games, had a nice shiner ... played the next game though.

Cheers,

Sean

It was a good weekend anyway :-) We finished 2-1-1 (the team we lost to was incredible, and they told *us* that we were awesome!).

Jesse attended all four games and provided moral support. But I don't think he's quite as excited about the cast any more ;-)

Sweet!

The hard part was, the player with the shiner, her parents agreed to let her stay at the hotel with us, and then she got the shiner, and so we got her back "damaged" .... Still, dad made it clear he was satisfied in my EMT skillZ.

Our team went 1-2-1 to finish third.

Cheers.
