Creating a Non-publishing Topic Template

As you develop your content in Author-it, you may discover that you know the title of the topic that you will need, but you're not ready to write the content. Or you may have a topic that is finished, but needs to be approved.

For cases like these, use a non-publishing topic template so that you can have a placeholder in the book that only you (and your team) know about. (This concept is similar to using "Comment" styles. However, by using a non-publishing topic template, you can format the preliminary content correctly.)

To create a non-publishing topic template:

  1. Select the Restricted > Templates folder.
  2. Create a new topic template. Follow the instructions in the Author-it Knowledge Center, if necessary.
  3. On the General tab, clear the three check boxes under Include Object In...
  4. Click OK.

Apply your template to those topics that you don't want to publish yet.
