Resetting Numbered Items
When you use two different list styles for consecutive paragraphs, it's possible that the second list will not start at 1. (This typically happens when using Author-it's Procedure Heading followed by List Number.) To prevent the problem, create a style that resets list numbering, and insert a paragraph between the two list paragraphs.
This problem typically occurs only while developing content in Author-it. However, problems may occasionally occur when publishing to Word or PDF.
To create a new style that resets numbering in lists:
- Select the Styles folder.
- Right-click over the folder and select Style > Paragraph Styles Template.
- Type
Reset Numberingin the Description field.Do not select Make this object an object template or you won't be able to use the style.
- Clear all three output check boxes (Word document, Windows Help, and HTML).
If you want the Reset Numbering style to carry over to your Word output, don't clear the check box.
- Select the Style Definition tab. Make the following modifications:
- Font tab: Size -
1pt - Borders tab: Border style - Double (this lets you quickly identify the applied style when working in the Topic Editor)
- Borders tab: Apply to - Top
- Bullets and Numbering tab: None
- Font tab: Size -
- Click OK.
